This event is dedicated to the trademark brand of the Valjevo region. It is held every year during the first or second week of October and attracts a large number of local visitors as well as guests from other cities. Many have the opportunity to witness the preparation of čvarci according to a 200-year-old recipe, and to taste this unique product — an invention of Valjevo’s butchers that is prepared nowhere else on the planet.
Timeline:
Saturday, October 3
11:00 – Traditional crafts workshops titled “Come, Listen, and Try,” organized by the “Naše ruke” National Association.
12:00 – Start of the competition for making Valjevo šoder cracklings.
12:15 – Cultural and entertainment program on the plateau in front of the Cultural Center: performances by the “Krušik,” “Abrašević,” and “Đerdan” folklore ensembles.
15:00 – Announcement of the šoder cracklings competition winners, followed by a supporting program.
19:00–21:00 – Concert by Dejan Petrović and his Big Band.
Sunday, October 4
10:30 – Traditional crafts workshops titled “Come, Listen, and Try.”
11:00 – 5th Festival of dvojnice, ocarinas, and frula (traditional flutes), organized by the “Gradac” Cultural and Artistic Society from Valjevo.
13:00 – Grand opening of the milestone 20th Duvan Cracklings Festival.
Following the opening – Cultural and entertainment program featuring performances by the “Abrašević,” “Gradac,” and “Izvor” societies.
Around 17:00 – Award ceremony for the best duvan cracklings makers.
